Flanders home to 3D

About Flam3D

Flam3D - short for Flanders Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing Ecosystem - is the independent Flemish platform for all stakeholders active in 3D / AM in Flanders. 3D printing is neither a hype nor a threat: it can be a special addition to traditional technologies. Flam3D wants to look for value chains to support smart and internal innovation inside and outside Flanders, and both inside and outside the network. By expanding the Flam3D network, our members gain access to market information and business opportunities. This way, we are working to ensure that Flanders continues to play a leading role in the development of 3D printing.

Flanders, the northern part of Belgium, is a key economic region in Europe, with an export-based economy. Flanders has been a major player in European trade since the Middle Ages. Today Flanders continues this trading tradition, being the world’s No. 1 exporter per capita. Flanders is particularly active in high added-value, quality products and services.

3D printing or ‘additive manufacturing’ is a collection of technologies that make up a product (‘printed’) from a base stock, usually layer per layer. New markets are emerging as the production rates increase and more potential raw materials get developed. It is widely accepted that 3D printing will have a major impact on the way goods are produced and transported. The technology also offers huge opportunities for sustainable production.
